Celebration of Asturias' patron saint Virgen de Covadonga (Virgin of Covadonga—Nuestra Señora de Covadonga, also called "La Santina"). "Fiesta de la Sidra" (Cider Festival) in Gijón's El Llano district—over 100,000 liters of cider poured from height (escanciar) to aerate it; traditional Asturian bagpipes (gaita asturiana) music; fabada asturiana (bean stew) eaten; mass at Covadonga Sanctuary (Cueva de Covadonga) in Picos de Europa mountains
