Granada : crosses (cruces) decorated with flowers (carnation, rose, gladiolus) and placed in squares (plazas) and streets (especially Realejo district (old Jewish quarter), Albaicín, Sacromonte); local bars set up "cruces" outside with tables and chairs, serve free tapas with drink (or cheap tapas €2). "Concurso de Cruces" (Cross Competition) with prizes for most original design. Córdoba : "Cruces de Mayo" with crosses in patios (courtyards) and squares; combines with Fiesta de los Patios (see May entry) which starts May 2-3 overlapping week. Tradition : children (niños de la Cruz) dressed in First Communion outfits (girls in white dress, boys in suit) dance and sing around crosses ("baile de la Cruz")—less common now but still observed in some Granada neighborhoods. Also: "Verbena de la Cruz" (night party) on May 2 night with dancing, churros, chocolate
