Military parade (Desfile Militar) along Paseo de la Castellana from Plaza de Cuzco to Plaza de Castilla—King Felipe VI presides; Spanish Armed Forces (army, navy, air force, Royal Guard, Civil Guard, National Police) march; military aircraft flyover with Spanish flag colors (red-yellow-red) trailing smoke. Civil ceremonies at Plaza de Colón (Columbus Square) honoring Spain's flag. Also celebrates Día de la Resistencia Indígena in some Latin American countries but in Spain it's Fiesta Nacional de España (National Holiday since 1987, moved from Franco-era October 1). Most businesses closed. Not a "party" festival (no fireworks or parades besides military)
