Celebration of St. Teresa of Ávila (Teresa de Jesús—Doctor of the Church, 16th-century mystic and Carmelite reformer, born in Ávila 1515). Mass at Convento de Santa Teresa (built on site of her birthplace); procession of Santa Teresa statue from convent to Ávila Cathedral (UNESCO-listed Romanesque cathedral—one of Spain's oldest, 12th century); Carmelite nuns chant Gregorian chant at Convento de la Encarnación (where Teresa lived and wrote Libro de la Vida). Also: "Feria de Artesanía" (crafts fair) with nun-made sweets (yemas de Santa Teresa—egg yolk candies)
