Note: Alcoy's main festival is April 22-24 (in honor of St. George), but many towns celebrate October variants in honor of Virgen del Rosario (October 7) or local patron saints. Reenactment of medieval battles between Moors and Christians (Reconquista). Elaborate period costumes: Moorish side with turbans, scimitars, North African-inspired silk brocade; Christian side with armor, helmets, capes, arquebuses. "L'Entrada" (The Entry)—parades with up to 5,000 participants each side. "La Batalla"—mock battle with musket fire (blanks—very loud, bring earplugs), cannon shots, horseback charges, castle siege. "La Embajada" (The Embassy)—parley speeches (in Valencian dialect) where Christian ambassador demands surrender and Moorish ambassador refuses, battle follows, Christians win, Moorish ambassador converts to Christianity at end.
