The week before (May 9-15), hermandades (brotherhoods) from Seville, Huelva, Cádiz, Málaga, Córdoba, Jaén, Granada, Almería, Badajoz, Madrid, Barcelona and even from Latin America (Argentina, Chile, Mexico, Colombia) begin walking. El Camino (The Path) routes: El Rocío from Seville (90 km) takes 3 days; from Huelva (70 km) takes 2 days; from Almonte (5 km) takes 1 hour but hermandad de Almonte has priority in entering hermitage on Saturday night. Key moments : Saturday May 15 (11pm): "El Saltito" (The Little Jump)—Almonte hermandad jumps over fence into hermitage courtyard carrying "Simpecado" (embroidered standard). Sunday May 16 (10am): Mass (misa de romeros) at hermitage; Virgin (Nuestra Señora del Rocío, La Blanca Paloma—White Dove) statue carried through Almonte streets. Monday May 17 : "Procesión de la Virgen" around hermitage. Tuesday May 18 : "Romería de Vuelta" (Return pilgrimage)—brotherhoods start walking home. Accommodation : book in Almonte or El Rocío village (3 km from hermitage) 12+ months in advance; alternatively stay in Seville (1 hour drive) and take tour bus (€50-80)
